Fun and Educational Programming for LGBTQIA+ Youth

Vera Elwood, Youth Program Coordinator
While Vera has lived all over Missouri and Kansas, she’s lived in Columbia longer than anywhere else and considers it home. After a year of serving as a Volunteer Coordinator with PRISM, Vera was thrilled to step into the role of Youth Program Coordinator. Vera has been a librarian since 2016 and received her Master’s in Library and Information Sciences in 2019. Her career included 3 years in young adult services, 5 years in academic services, 5 years in management and administration, and a constant dedication to programming and outreach. Vera also serves on the City of Columbia’s Disabilities Commission and the Commission on Cultural Affairs and volunteers with True/False Film Festival and Unbound Book Festival. In her free time, Vera enjoys spending time with her family, crafting, and playing ukulele. On a rainy day, you’ll find her curled up with a blanket, one of her incredibly vocal cats (Matilda and Spooky Fox Mulder), and a good book.
Organized by Trained Volunteers
Prism has volunteer coordinators (23 years of age or older) who plan meetings and activities. Our coordinators go through a background check and interview process, and also receive orientation on best practices for working with LGBTQIA+ youth. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer coordinator for Prism, check out our calendar for dates of our upcoming volunteer orientations or email prism@thecenterproject.org with any specific questions.
